Fine gold and silver lines on warm orange, a small box that brings a little warmth to your desk or shelf.

iroikoi brings Yamanaka lacquerware, a craft with 450+ years of history, into modern everyday design. Each KOKEI box is sprayed by craftspeople, then finished with gold and silver maki-e lines made one piece at a time by hand.

It holds jewelry, watches, stationery and other small items, and it looks good enough to leave on display. A thoughtful gift, or a small treat for yourself.

Story

KOKEI Ever-Changing Expressions Created by Light.

Ripples spreading across the surface of water, or a mirage shimmering in the distance. The landscapes created by light have no fixed form, constantly changing their appearance depending on the viewer and the moment.

KOKEI is a collection inspired by these fleeting and beautiful phenomena, capturing their essence within each piece.

At the heart of the design is the moire effect, a visual phenomenon created through the interplay of optical illusion and reflected light. By layering delicate patterns, KOKEI expresses a unique sense of depth and movement through the fusion of traditional maki-e craftsmanship and contemporary design.

As light shifts and viewing angles change, subtle reflections emerge and transform, as if a living landscape resides within the piece. Each item reveals its own distinct character, offering new discoveries with every use.

Going beyond the possibilities of conventional surface finishes, KOKEI embraces a new idea: capturing the phenomenon itself.

A signature collection within the iroikoi Maki-e Series, KOKEI represents the harmony of Japanese tradition and innovative artistic expression.
