Yakushigama

From sacred origins to everyday comfort.

Yakushigama is a product brand of Chugai Toen, a ceramic studio based in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture - one of Japan’s most renowned pottery towns with over 1,000 years of history.
The brand name “Yakushigama” comes from a small shrine dedicated to Yakushi Nyorai (the Buddha of Healing) that once stood at the company’s founding location.

The statue of Yakushi Nyorai is now enshrined at Hosenji Temple, a respected Soto Zen temple in Seto. Each year on November 8 and 12, locals and visitors gather to celebrate “Oyakushi-san” in a traditional festival that marks the late autumn season.

This long-standing connection to place, ritual, and community reflects the cultural depth behind every Yakushigama piece.

Yakushigama ceramics are created with a spirit of care and meaning, inspired by the protective and healing symbolism of “Oyakushi-san,” who has long been associated with blessings for eye health.

From maneki-neko and zodiac animals to seasonal decorative figures, each piece is designed not only to be visually delightful, but also to bring a sense of comfort, warmth, and quiet joy into everyday life.
