Komon Circle Earrings - SAME

Komon Circle Earrings - SAME

鮫小紋ピアス

Earrings inspired by Same-Komon — one of Japan's most storied textile patterns, composed of tiny circles that mimic the texture of shark skin. Each circular motif is three-dimensional, with edges polished individually by hand for a finish that is smooth to the touch and refined in detail.

Same-Komon was worn on samurai formal robes during the Edo period. The finest variety, known as Goku-same, was reserved for those of the highest rank — its dots so small they were almost invisible to the naked eye. Shark skin, being hard and resilient, also carries the traditional meaning of warding off misfortune. A pattern with history, worn close to the face.

Pairs beautifully with the matching komon scarf.

Story

Traditional craft can feel like something that belongs behind glass. These earrings were made with the opposite intention — to bring the patterns and techniques that have been passed down for generations into the rhythm of daily life. When you wear a piece rooted in craft, you become part of the tradition of keeping it alive. That feels like reason enough.
