Akebono Shuzo Brewery Apron - “Tenmei” (Navy)

Akebono Shuzo Brewery Apron - “Tenmei” (Navy)

酒蔵前掛け「曙酒造株式会社 天明」紺

Akebono Shuzo is a historic sake brewery in Aizubangemachi, Fukushima, with over 200 years of tradition. Brewery aprons like this were originally made as promotional items for liquor shops and restaurants, so they are rare even in Japan.

With the rising global interest in Japanese sake, these traditional aprons have become popular overseas as well. Tenmei—meaning “daybreak”—is Akebono Shuzo’s flagship brand, now recognized nationwide.

As a sake distribution services, we have built relationships with sake breweries across Japan.Among those connections, we encountered the "maekake". “Maekake” is an apron that symbolize sake brewing culture. Originally, it was intended to be work attire, worn by people working in sake breweries and sake shops. It was intended to serv as protective gear, shielding clothing and strengthening back support for heavy lifting. Its powerful logo and traditional design are filled with the history and charm of sake culture.
