Simple, yet not generic – the craftsmanship that the glass brand "TOUMEI" aims for.
With their plump, rounded outlines yet dignified presence, and their small size yet undeniable aura of presence, the vases and glasses from the glassware brand "TOUMEI" possess a unique atmosphere.
"TOUMEI" was founded by two artists residing in Munakata City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
One of them is glass artist Baku Takahashi. He primarily uses the free-blowing technique (a method of shaping glass by blowing air into a blowpipe without using a mold). Sometimes he works relentlessly, and other times he takes his time to carefully consider his work theoretically.
In this way, he creates glass pieces of various colors and shapes. The sculptures he creates by combining these pieces are unique and mysterious.
Yet, for some reason, they evoke a sense of nostalgia. Takahashi's work has received high praise both domestically and internationally.
What is the origin of the name "TOUMEI"? "I think glass has many appealing qualities, but what we value most is its 'transparency.' That's where the name comes from.
By letting light through, it reveals unique textures and colors, and when filled with water, its silhouette and presence become clearer... We hope that through TOUMEI, people will feel the universal beauty and rich expressiveness of glass as a material," says Wada.
